In
1820 Simeon Lyon built the first ‘uptown’ hotel in Naples. The building
of this one-story tavern, “The Jacqua House”, signaled the move of the
Naples business district from the Naples town park area to its present
location.
The
old “Jacqua House” was moved and the present hotel was constructed in 1895
with J. L. Brown as its first operator. It is the oldest continuous
business on Main Street. The Hotel soon became a landmark, the center for
dinners, weddings and banquets. Many speeches by prominent politicians,
including Robert Kennedy, were delivered from the spacious front porch.
It was the pride of Naples and was advertised as “The Finest Hotel in the
County”.

Naples Most Historic Hotel
The foundation of the building is three feet thick and the walls of the
hotel are five bricks thick. The federal period architecture of the
building is virtually as it was built.
